Last Class of Semester 1

This post will be the last post for semester 1 and this blog.  Starting next semester we will begin using Google Classroom.  On the last class of semester 1, you will join my google classroom and begin using it.

If you finish the summative early I have a task for you.  As you are aware of the aquaponic systems in our class I would like you to research and see if you can determine how a bell siphon works with the aquaponic systems.  What is the purpose of the siphon and what makes it work?  Post any interesting diagrams, models, or information on the padlet below. You could also post any useful information on how to pump the water from the fish tanks into the grow beds using the least amount of energy.

Plant Project

Today you will begin working on your plant project.  You will work alone to complete this project.  In you drop folders you have been given the instructions including a rubric which describes the expectations for this project.

Be creative but remember this is realistic fiction which means you must be able to explain how your plants unique adaptations allow it to survive in the environment.

Today once you have completed the Catalyst take the following survey.

Once you have completed the survey on missing work I would like you to find the rubric I have placed in your drop folders for self-assessing your Learning Behaviors.

When you are finished with the Learning Behaviors assessment you may come to the back table to examine some flowers.

Today's Lesson:  Located in your Dropbox you will find the Plant Pollination Gizmo.  We will be learning about plant parts especially those responsible for reproduction.  If you do not finish this activity in class it will be considered homework.

Today you will be completing the Unit 2 Summative which asks you to investigate photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

If you finish early you can:
take some time to review the Aquaponic charts to identify any work which could be done. 
Prepare a wet mount of an elodea lab and construct a model of the cellular structure.
Compare the cellular structure of different plant leaves you collect on campus
Contrast the differences between a water plant and land plants cellular structure.

Today you will complete the summative on Constructing an Explanation.  You will have no catalyst.

When you are finished you will practice constructing models which show how potential energy changes in one of the following situations.
  • Skier jumping on a ski jump

  • Teeter Totter

  • Bungee Jumper
